TOS Full Cast Penultimatum
From: Marc Thomas
Hi Trek TV Friends, As much as I've relished my role, in the past, as the contrarian of the email bag, loving The Animated Series, loathing Wrath of Kahn I find myself more or less on board with the consensus of Trekdom with regards to The Final Frontier. Its hard to watch, not so kitschingly bad as to round up to good fun like Spock's Brain or more to point season threes "Way to Eden" which shares the central theme of an Ontological Quest. Growing up when and where I did, submerged in the counter ethnocentrism of guru of the month culture, glassy eyed pop therapy and 'need to believe' psychology kinda freaks me out man. I just don't get cults or the need to follow a spiritual master. It feels so 'baby boomer', unmetal, anti-modern, ,creepy and besides… Gene Roddenbury The one and true Great Bird of The Galaxy has forbidden this. Thus say he, my lot to abide. While I appreciate that Shatner directed a stern rebuke to these insipid philosophies, I'm really not interested in science fiction about social or emotional bullshit and I don't like camping. I guess my misgivings about Star Trek Five aren't steeped in critical rigor anymore than my giddy cloying embrace of the franchise as a whole, and the TOS cast in particular which is why despite the views I've just expressed there are only five other movies I'd rather watch than this. I'd give you all a big hug but Klingons may be watching and I don't wanna look uncool Love Mar
