My Own Voyage Home
From: Marc Thomas
Hi Trek TV Friends, I've really enjoyed this series of films that began with the TOS episode Space Seed and concludes with this. During the early run of Star Treks film career I'd learned to hide my nurdiosity under a bushel. It had taken a full adolescence to learn that just being myself was no way to getta girlfriend, by my 20s I'd figured out that being someone else, the kinda guy young woman were more inclined to like worked much better. Sadly this meant that when Nimoy was filming the new Star Trek film in san francsico where I lived in one of the best neighborhoods to procure bleach cut crank, crack,a rainbow of prostitutional variety, and firearms, I had to keep my enthusiasm indeed, manic glee well on the down low. I had to act like this was just another hum drum dumn ass flick clogging the sidewalks and streets with lighting van, trailers, and other magical hollywood brick o brack, A Journey Video,Huey Lewis and the News, a Dirty Harry movie... maybe? Star Trek? What the fuck is that? Ironically, when the movie finally showed up at the regency on Van Ness, where all the uncool non art films go, the hot and vapid Los Angelistan I was dating surprised me with... "Omigod I totally wanna see that, I heard its sooo funny" Shortly after this shocking cultural shift in society caused by a trek com that never quite go rom….one of the things I like about it, TNG showed up and suddenly Trek geekery became much more multi-gendered and if not quite mainstream less stigmatized. Personally I think TTV should jump into straight into 1987 next time and not deal with ST5 until after season two of The Data and Captain J Show. But I don't do a star Trek podcast I just do this and since 1986 I haven't cared who knows it.
