79 All Good Original Things
From: Marc Thomas
Hi TrekTV Friends, William Shatner plays the first woman to captain a star ship in this inspiring paean to feminine power, based on a story by Gloria Steinham and Betty Friedan. It's a little discouraging to see another woman in Uhura's chair, why can't a man be the communications officer. Star Fleet, you're a bunch of sex-racists. Actually it's Angela at the switch board which is interesting because we haven't seen her since season one, apropos of this...season one that is. As much as I've enjoyed emailing my dear Trek TV Friends weekly, I regret that I had to wait until the 24th upload to open hailing frequencies, having learned of you only a week or so before. Here then, if I may, is a lighting round-up of commentary on the TOS I missed. THE CAGE: Majel Barret is a hot brunette, Gene's first skipper is kind of a cry baby WNMHGB: hey, that lady played Hotlips in the M*A*S*H movie and that guy was in 2001 A*S*O MUDD'S WOMEN: the commodification of women ENEMY WITHIN: best space dog ever MAN TRAP: this is the one they aired first, really? NAKED TIME: It's Mr Riley Yeah! Sulu's hard body flaunted CHARLIE X: goddamned teenagers BALANCE OF TERROR: I used to feel sad at the end of Balance of Terror, but Angela is hooked up with another dude by Shore Leave, so I guess she got over whatsisname perty fast WALGMO: Gene was married someone else at this point, Majel was just his girlfriend. Lurch Gets cock rocked. DAGGER OF THE MIND: mad man in a box, and Feliz Navidad Dr. Noel, xmas party lady MIRI: goddamned teenagers CONSCIENCE OF THE KING: it's Mr.Riley again, Yeah and Kirk hosts a Shakespeare play to facilitate getting laid GAL 7: ape men in space, awesome COURT MARTIAL: perry mason in space, meh.. THE MENAGERIE: redundant if you saw the cage, which we hadn't back in the day, but now only a winner if you like perry mason in space SHORELEAVE: pre holodec tech run amok, then boobs in day-glo fur SQUIRE OF GOTHOS: Q in his youth ARENA: zippered lizard man, now on your forward screen, we watch a tv show about people watching tv IN SPACE THE ALTERNATIVE FACTOR: very thoughtful, interesting ideas mingle with boredom TOMORROW IS YESTERDAY: Best UFO story ever RETURN OG THE ARCHONS: a Dickensian planet where zombie monks attack slowly, Takai played stoned quite well, goddamned teenager Then I had a Taste of Armageddon, missed Space Seed, because I thought writing every week would make me seem too eager…. no matter I'll save those comments for the sequel where Cardo Monty lets his hair down and his man-tits out. I've been corresponding steadily since This Side of Paradise, no point in being coy. This has been hella fun TREK TV, II haven't enjoy watching TOS this much sense 1973. I was looking for a podcast devoted strictly to Trek '66 thru 68 when I found you, now sated,I am ready for the greatest Trek of all. The A is for…. alright! … in TAS. Alright, yes well…That means awesome in seventies vernacular, instead of hyperbole, understatement characterized the temporal lingua-franko I'm saying that TAS is actually very good you don't believe me but you'll soon see, soon see that I'm right or horrible horribly wrong. i cant wait to find out. Yours in Gratitude, Marc
